Batman is one of the world's most popular and storied fictional characters across all forms of media. From the critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series starring Kevin Conroy to The Dark Knight Trilogy starring Christian Bale, there has always been a new version of the Dark Knight across different generations for fans to enjoy. Moving forward, the next version of The Caped Crusader will be directed by Andy Muschietti.

Andy Muschietti’s directing credits include It, It Chapter Two, and most recently, The Flash, which features both the DC Extended Universe Batman starring Ben Affleck and the Tim Burton version starring Michael Keaton aiding Ezra Millers Flash after he mistakenly causes a rift in the universe after saving his mother from being murdered. Although it is unknown what Muschietti’s take on Batman will be like exactly, reports have come out that the movie will be a part of James Gunn’s DC Universe and will take inspiration from Grant Morrison's Batman run in the mid-2000s. Morrison's Batman is notable for introducing Damian Wayne, the biological son of Bruce Wayne/Batman, and one of many to take up the mantle of Robin.

There are plenty of unknowns about what the next interpretation of Batman will be like, how exactly he will fit in with this version of the Justice League, and who will play The Dark Knight. One thing has been made clear, and that is Matt Reeves' interpretation starring Robert Pattinson will remain separate from the upcoming DCU projects. Reeves’ The Batman was praised by audiences and critics alike and is planned to be part of a trilogy, with shows such as The Penguin also building the storyline.

The Flash is receiving mostly positive reviews online, especially for the showings of two versions of The Dark Knight. James Gunn and Peter Safran have also expressed their approval of Muschietti and his direction of The Flash for balancing both humorous and serious tones. Muschietti's confirmation to direct the next version of Batman is just one of many steps Gunn is taking to build the DC Universe, as castings for 2025's Superman: Legacy are currently being decided on.
