The long wait for Bobby Shmurda is finally over. After serving seven years behind bars, Bobby Shmurda was released by officials on February 23rd.
Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, served time for conspiracy and weapons charges. Shmurda also was involved in suspicious gang activity with several other people.
Fans have been waiting for his return since 2014. Before he was put behind bars, Shmurda was one of the hottest rappers in all of music. In November of 2014, Shmurda had back-to-back songs that reached the Billboard Top 100. His song, “Hot Boy” peaked at number 6 in the Top 100, and his other song reached number 92 on the Billboard charts. Shmurda was also featured on a song in 2018, where his verse was recorded through a prison phone. That song peaked a number 25 in the Top 100.
Bobby Shmurda is also a multi-time platinum artist. Two of the songs in his album, “Shmurda She Wrote,” became RIAA certified platinum. One of those songs eventually became certified 5x platinum. The album eventually became RIAA certified gold. With only five songs on the project, Shmurda’s music became a smash hit with fans around the world.
With Shmurda now released from prison, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is if Shmurda will ever replicate his 2014 self. Seven years in prison can have a heavy impact on your physical and mental states, making the adjustment to the real world difficult. Fans are concerned if Shmurda will fall under this category as well. While he said he was supposedly making music in prison, the big question is if he was hiding scars he had accumulated. Was he assaulted? Did he become involved in a prison gang? Fans don’t know the details of his time in prison but do know that he is back.
Other rappers have already made promises to bring back the, “old Bobby Shmurda.” Throughout his time in prison, Shmurda stayed close friends with Quavo, one of the three artists in the group, “Migos.” When Shmurda was released, Quavo picked him up in a private jet to celebrate. On March 1st, Quavo stated at Bobby Shmurda’s presence on Migos’ new album, “Culture III” is a, “must,” according to multiple sources. His longtime friend Rowdy Rebel, who was also incarcerated with Shmurda, is also rumored to be collaborating with the artist.

In his first few months out of prison, Shmurda plans to spend his time reconnecting with his family and getting back to work. Shmurda already FaceTimed with his mother and reconnected with several of his friends. He also plans on spending a significant amount of time with his parole officer. Shmurda accepted a plea deal in 2016 in which he would be released but serve the rest of his sentence on parole until 2026.
Fans now have the relief of having Bobby Shmurda back from prison and will be waiting for his historic comeback to the rap game. “Culture III” by Migos, which is rumored to have Shmurda featured, is set to be released in the coming weeks.
