Dean College Field Hockey has come out stronger than ever this year holding a 3-4 record for the season thus far. With three wins under their belt this early on, they have already passed last year's record of 2-16, which had not been broken in more than six years.
The Bulldogs took down two teams at home back-to-back at the start of the season. The first was Manhattanville University (1-0) and University of Maine Farmington (6-1). Most recently, the Bulldogs beat Rivier University at home once again, 2-0. I spoke with one of Dean College's Field Hockey athletes to find out what improvements have been made for this team to rack up some more wins.
Student athlete Sydnee Ramos talked about last year and the challenges their offense had on scoring. She stated that their defense had been strong, but they had trouble finding the back of the goal. However, their confidence levels rose after crushing Manhattanville University 6-1. They are running a faster and cleaner offense this year, leading them to more victories.
With a large first-year group entering this past year, the team is young and talented. One first-year in particular, Emily Yazzetti, has scored 7 of the team's 13 total goals this season. With the offense picking up the pace and the defense staying strong, the future is looking bright for our Dean College Field Hockey team.
