This past summer, Dean Sophomore Daniel Botolino was a first-time broadcast producer for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in Cape Cod. The Cape Cod collegiate team is the former home of a few Red Sox Legends.

As part of his broadcast producer tasks, Daniel made player graphics and handled a lot of the behind-the-scenes work. He began this internship in June and continued until mid-August. To prepare, he would check up on the stats of the other teams and familiarize himself with the players and stories of the opposing team.

Daniel found out about this opportunity through Professor John Rooke, who put him in contact with the head of the Harbor Hawks' broadcasting department. Daniel says, “I was very nervous to start as it was a big opportunity, and it was something that I had never done before. I overcame those nerves by diving in headfirst.” He was able to learn how a broadcast worked and looked from behind the camera. Daniel also mentioned, “I learned so much more than I ever imagined, and I met some amazing people who will be lifelong friends.”

The Harbor Hawks are not only a place to gain experience in the broadcasting field, but a place where college baseball players sharpen their skills and gain the attention of coaches. Many professional baseball players have come out of the Harbor Hawks organization and found success in the MLB. Two notable ones are Jackie Bradley Jr. and Jason Varitek, two former Boston Red Sox players.

Jackie Bradley Jr. was on the Red Sox from 2013-2020. At that time, he won a championship with them and was named an all-star. Jackie was on the Harbor Hawks in 2009.  Jason Varitek spent his entire career with the Red Sox, becoming a leader and a champion with them. Varitek was a member of the Hyannis team in 1991 and 1993. Both players solidified themselves as prospects through the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

This past season, the Harbor Hawks won their division for the first time since 2015 with a winning record of 24-14-2 and clinched a trip to the playoffs. They were defeated by the Bourne Braves 5-1 in the first round of the playoffs after a promising regular season. There are no upcoming events scheduled for the Harbor Hawks at this time.
