Many concepts of hope, humanity, big changes, and burning love are demonstrated in this musical celebration of The Beatles. Dean College students never fail to entertain a crowd and leave a print of sentimental remembrance in people’s hearts. From the on-spot visuals and remarkable rock band to the beautiful self-expression of these talented actors being portrayed on stage, Let It Be was a great success well put together. There is nothing like when Dean College students come together, take a musical, and do everything in their power to work through the process of improving it.
Straight off the bat, the opening number “I Saw Her Standing There”: has a wow factor. I loved the transition from the old-fashioned 1960s TV visuals showcased to the musical beginning with so much energy, passion, hype, and groove. There were some excellent sequences and transitions in the musical, the execution of sad and intense to happy and hopeful was on point. The dancing and skilled choreography were very impressive, especially in the numbers “Penny Lane” and “Strawberry Fields Forever”, fueling the audience for more. Furthermore, I was very pleased with the singing and harmonies, they were very captivating and well done.
The duo performance of “Blackbird” which consisted of a singer playing guitar, Ali Stanglewicz, alongside solo dancer, Maisha Diatta, was a very heartfelt and breathtaking piece in the musical, with the dancing and singing correlated perfectly with each other. Another memorable piece in the musical would have to be the closing number “Hey Jude”, as everyone came together for a last hurrah filled with peace and love. I would also like to give a shout out to the set of talented and hardworking women who were part of Sergent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, impressive work.
In the end, after all the clapping, cheering on, smiling from cheek to cheek, and a bit of crying too, I left with a Beatles song playing through my earphones on my way to the library as well as a pocket full of sunshine. This performance was an experience I was more than happy to witness. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in this musical, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
