Last Thursday’s Nintendo Direct unveiled the long-awaited return and remake of the classic puzzle platformer series, Mario vs. Donkey Kong. The game is set to launch on February 16th, 2024 for the Nintendo Switch, which will introduce local co-op for the first time in the series lifetime.
To explain the game’s plot, Donkey Kong stole all the Mini Mario toys from Mario’s factory, and it’s up to him to retrieve them by going through a series of puzzle levels. Each level offers a variety of different challenges and obstacles, requiring some creative thinking and strategy (see 3:28 from the Nintendo Direct livestream).
The first installment of the 2D puzzle platformer series was back in 2004 for the GameBoy Advance, with every new installment being added to each Nintendo console until April 2016. This latest edition will officially end the franchise’s 8-year drought.
Pre-orders for Mario vs. Donkey Kong are available now through the Nintendo eShop. Any chances of the game’s release being delayed are currently very slim.
