My Honest Thoughts on the Switch 2

Last Wednesday, Nintendo released its latest direct covering the Nintendo Switch 2. After watching the direct, I loved everything about the console’s announcements. There was just one problem, and I’m sure every Nintendo fan knows what I’m talking about.
Let’s cut to the chase: the prices for the console and its games are WAY TOO HIGH! The cost for the Switch 2 is $449.99, while the upcoming games (i.e. Mario Kart World, etc). will be worth $80, which is twenty dollars higher than the base price for the OG Switch. Personally, I think this is a very gross choice. It never made sense that every Nintendo game was worth $60 before (even games that have been out for years), so why raise the base price higher?
I know some people will argue that Nintendo raised the charge to earn some money back for the console’s production. However, how is that going to help if the amount they’re charging is already anti-consumer? Not everyone has eighty dollars lying around to burn on entertainment, Nintendo. If this company just lowered the price, more people will be likely to buy the Switch 2 and its games, causing their ROI to be higher. But of course, Nintendo always has its head buried in the sand.
As for the games provided by Nintendo, I’m a HUGE fan of their new original IP. I’ve been dying for a new Mario Kart game, and Mario Kart World (set to release on June fifth), seems to have an awesome mix of courses and open-world exploration. I also felt like the Donkey Series was a little underappreciated for a while, and the upcoming release of Donkey Kong Bananza (set to release on July 17th), has stunning visuals with seemingly wacky gameplay and an appealing story. Other cool game announcements from the direct included chapters three and four of Deltarune on June fifth, as well as the future release of Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2025 (thanks for only showing nine seconds of footage, Nintendo).
As for the Switch 2 features itself, there was one that struck out to me. Outside of the usual quality-of-life improvements, the major elephant in the room was the introduction of GameChat. It’s pretty much Nintendo’s built-in version of Discord, and it’s an awesome functionality if you plan to play multiplayer games with friends remotely. I never thought that Nintendo would ever produce something like this, as it seemed like the company focused more on giving players the immersive individual experience. Therefore, it’s great to know that it exists on the Switch 2 (although, I bet it’s going to have the audio quality of an ’80s Macintosh Computer).
Overall, I love this new console and their upcoming games, but you won’t see me get it until Nintendo makes it cheaper. DROP THE PRICE, NINTENDO! The Switch 2 is set to release on June 5th, 2025.
