North Carolina Lieutenant Governor and Republican candidate for the governorship, Mark Robinson, has been in the mix of a political scandal that could affect his ability to become the governor of the state of North Carolina. Mr. Robinson has been in the spotlight for some time and has been a very controversial figure among many critics. He has been in controversy over his derogatory remarks about the Jewish and Black communities who support the Democratic party.

He has also made derogatory remarks about the Muslims and the LGBTQ+ communities as well in the past. The recent allegations come from leaks that CNN reported about disturbing comments on a website forum in which he posted himself as a “Black Nazi” and that he wished he could have owned slaves. These posts date back from 2008 to 2012 and include other disturbing content on the forum. On Thursday, Robinson denied the allegations on X . He stated “Let me reassure you: The things that you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson...”

Robinson has been a vocal ally to former president Donald Trump and has even given a speech at the Republican National Convention, and political rallies in North Carolina. Donald Trump has described Robinson as “Marther Luther King on steroids.” After the leaked allegations, it has been reported that Mr. Robinson will not attend nor speak at the former president's rally this last Saturday.

The allegations have also affected many members of the local and national level of politics. In the state house of North Carolina, many members of the Republican Party have distanced themselves from Robinson, and on Capitol Hill, some congressional members have voiced concern. Rep. Patrick McHenry (RNC) has said his reaction was “not good” and Rep. Richard Hudson (RNC) has said the situation was “very concerning.”

Many in the Republican party in North Carolina have been divided about the new revelations. As the gubernatorial election draws closer, one begs the question if this will dramatically affect Robinsons ability to unseat his opponent, Josh Stein (DNC), from office. Polls show that Robinson is still losing against Stein in the state election even when his allegations are becoming more national as the hours go on.

These allegations could damage Robinsons ability to take the office and if more leaks were uncovered, could damage Robinsons reputation in North Carolina and among many other supporters in the MAGA movement.
