Spider-Man: No Way Home, What We Know and What to Expect

After Marvel’s ambitious “Eternals” movie received mixed reviews, Marvel is looking to bounce back with the equally ambitious and highly anticipated “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” This film is going to be a big one, clocking in at over 2 and a half hours long, and director Jon Watts calls it “Spider-Man: Endgame,” in homage to the thrilling finish of the original Avengers saga.

The movie takes place after the events of its predecessor, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” after the previous villain, Mysterio, used his dying breath to reveal Spider-Man’s identity as Peter Parker to the world. Now Peter must deal with a life where everybody knows who he is and will try to fix it. Here is what we know so far:

The world widely believes that Peter has killed Mysterio, and we can see him getting interrogated in the trailer about it, and he will have to go to court over it.

Peter/Spider-Man will seek the help of another hero, Dr. Strange, to help set his life back on track, with disastrous consequences which will open the multiverse (which other Marvel movies will explore after this.)

Here’s where the fun begins. The multiverse will bring forth villains from other Spider-Man movies, as these take place in a different universe, and they are being brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take on Spider-Man. The following villains have been confirmed: Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Dr. Octopus, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, and Thomas Hayden Church’s Sandman.

Most of what we think we know comes from supposed “leaks” and internet theories about the movie, and for the most part, it is being kept under wraps, at least until the second trailer comes out, which fans desperately want, but nobody really knows when Marvel will release it. Here are some theories that are certainly possible:

Obviously, we must address the rumors that the previous Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, will be in it. Despite the leaks, nothing has been confirmed as of yet and anyone saying that they will be is going off rumors alone. It’s very likely that they could be, but nothing is confirmed.

Charlie Cox has been rumored to make an appearance to defend Peter in court as the lawyer Matt Murdock (Netflix’s “Daredevil”). This also hasn’t been confirmed, but all signs seem to point to that he will be in the movie.

Finally, will Tom Hardy’s Venom have any kind of role? In the mid-credits scene of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” Venom is transported to a strange new world, where we see Spider-Man on TV and despite not knowing him, Venom says “That guy…” ominously. We currently have no real clue if Tom Hardy will reprise his role as Venom in “No Way Home,” but once again, it looks somewhat likely.

The film doesn’t release until December 17th in the US and fans just can’t seem to stop theorizing what could happen and who will be in it. If Marvel plays its cards right, it could have another “Avengers: Endgame” level success on their hands. Until then, let’s just get to the second trailer.
