Bean TV was created by students of Dean TV, which is taught by Professor Greg Seibert. Seibert said to his students, "You guys can do a special project instead of a sporting event." Jack Melanson and Josiah Flynn were thinking about different ideas for weeks until it clicked. They thought: What if we have guests and give them ridiculous questions?" Josiah got the cast members and Jack got the guests.
The show is a dumpster fire where random objects and animals come in and out of the room causing chaos. The show is also recorded in one take so that raw reactions are caught on camera. So far Archer Billow, Wes Callery, and Tyler Pelletier have been guests on the show.
Every video is filmed on Wednesday nights and is put on YouTube in the afternoon of the following Saturday. Jack and Josiah have been brainstorming about what they think the people would want to see in the next episode, and about how to make it more ridiculous and different from other episodes.
Bean TV has been getting 300 views on YouTube. Jack and Josiah have been getting more motivation for every video that is uploaded. They also have their very own crew team.
When asked about his thoughts on Bean TV, Jack Melanson stated: "One day Josiah walked up to me and said, 'Dude, I have an idea... what if we made a podcast show that is like the Eric Andre Show.' I thought it was cool, but feared what Gregg was going to think of it because we do not have the tools for all that and his show is inappropriate. Later in the month Josiah walked into Gregg's office and pitched the idea. Gregg somehow approved it, and I was all in. After a Dean TV class, we got a crew made and Bean TV was going to be a reality. We had a meeting on Monday night and talked about who we wanted as a guest. The night before we filmed our first guest canceled on us and we had to call a crew member to play the guest. The day we filmed I was so lost and did not know what to do. I did not even have a script. I just went along with it and the film came out terrific. The video got over 200 views, and we were stoked."
When Josiah Flynn was asked for his thoughts on Bean TV, he said: "Bean TV was and is the biggest orchestration of chaotic insanity, which is uncontrolled to be unleashed to the universe. Bean TV originated from the idea of a podcast that evolved into a talk show and then into a TV show. The vibe of the show was inspired by a TV show called The Eric André Show which is a crazy show that inspired the insanity of Bean TV now today. Overall, the show was originally going to be filmed in an auditorium but when we asked our teacher about the show he recommended the Digital Studios at our school with three cameras. We also used the class to hire a team around the show that helped record the show in the studio. This helped so much and made filming simpler. The dynamic on set was chaotic and silly over the three shoots, with the crew having a lot of time."
