Sports are one of the most popular forms of entertainment out there. It's enjoyed by almost all from across the globe and is some of the most watched content in the world. From the Super Bowl being the most-watched event in America to the FIFA World Cup being the most-watched event in the world. Sports are an essential main staple to everyday entertainment. But there's a lot that goes unnoticed or unchecked when it comes to sports. One of them being the sports broadcasters. Sports broadcasting is a main staple of entertainment. Whether it's the broadcasters, the production, or the color commentators. they are all essential factors when it comes to making sports media more entertaining. Knowing this I decided to interview Grant Flood an aspiring sports broadcaster, the main host of Floodster Sports Zone Youtube channel, and blog writer of the Gridiron Nerds.
When it comes to sports, a lot of people usually get into it at a young age. This is no different for Grant. He took an interest in sports at a young age and took an interest in sports broadcasting when he was only eight or nine years old. He knew that he wanted to become a broadcaster, and he knew that he wanted to call games. As he grew older, he knew that it was what he wanted to do. "As I got older and the more sports I've watched and the more broadcasters I've listened to I knew that this was the field that I wanted to follow." Along with this, he has had a lot of inspiration over the years like Jack Edwards who was a former play-by-play sportscaster widely known for casting for the Boston Bruins from 2005 up until 2023 when he announced his retirement. Another inspiration is Kevin Harlan, a play-by-play caster for the NFL who has called games for teams such as the Green Bay Packers, The Jacksonville Jaguars, and more. Harlan's energy and excitement are what brought great joy and passion to Grant when it came to becoming a broadcaster.
Grant has done a lot when it comes to getting into the industry. He has broadcast live games and has worked as a sideline reporter for the Boston Rox. The time and dedication that it takes to get into this field are surely interesting. The one thing that should be noted the most behind all is the preparations. Broadcasters don't just go up on the air with no knowledge at all and then figure out everything as they go. They usually spend a lot of time prepping for whatever job they're taking. "For broadcasting there's always hours of prepping and in Dean College there may not be a lot or as much prepping that you have to do, but for a D1 sport, you have to spend hours upon hours prepping. and TV stations are going to rely on the information that you know ahead of time instead of leaning you into the position". They're going to expect a lot out of you and hope you've done your research ahead of time.
Grant is a hard-working and aspiring sports broadcaster who is going to make sure his voice is heard in the future. You can find him casting for the Rox at Campanili Stadium or his other social platforms.
