FRANKLIN- Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week.
Gonzalez Del Rio went 2-0 last week with both wins in shutout fashion. He had a good showing at Norwich where he made five saves to help the Bulldogs earn a 1-0 win.
The Madrid, Spain keeper ended last week with his third shutout of the season as he went to 4-0 overall on the season. He had four saves in Dean’s 1-0 win over Rivier on Saturday.
“It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team,” Gonzalez Del Rio explained. “Goalkeeping is a team effort, and I wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the support of my teammates and coaches. It's a great feeling to know that our collective efforts are being acknowledged,” Gonzalez Del Rio continued.
“I've been focusing on improving my communication and coordination with the defense,” Gonzalez Del Rio talked about.
“Clear communication on the field is essential for organizing the defense and preventing scoring opportunities for the opponents. Additionally, I've been working tirelessly on my positioning and shot-stopping abilities. It's about making those crucial saves when the team needs them the most,” Gonzalez Del Rio added.
Dean currently sits with a 5-2-1 record as they are in fourth place in the GNAC standings.
"Our chemistry is at an all-time high. We've been training hard together, and it's translating into our performances on the field,” Gonzalez Del Rio mentioned. “Everyone is dedicated to their role, and we've been able to maintain a strong defensive unit, which is a credit to the entire team, not just the goalkeeper,” Gonzalez Del Rio continued.
Their next game is Wednesday, September 27th, when they host Mitchell College at Longley Athletic Complex at 3:30 p.m.
