This past Saturday, the Dean College and Nichols College football teams played a non-conference game at the sunny Longley Athletic Complex, with Nichols College winning 31–7. As a result, Dean is now 0-3 for the season.
Melo Zelaya's nine-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs their first touchdown of the year, tying the score at 7-7. Soon after, Nichols came back with two long passes from Ian Snow to set up a field goal attempt from Nick Foynes, who kicked a 24-yard field goal to put Nichols ahead 10-7 at halftime.
In the second half, it became too much for the Bulldogs as they conceded two touchdowns in the third quarter. Jack Morvan connected with Josh Vitti on a 44-yard pass, and Snow followed with an 82-yard touchdown pass to close out the third quarter.
Dean gained 199 yards on 55 rushing attempts. First-year player Brayden Prasse led with 20 attempts and 53 yards. Darren Appiah and Syncere Bailey both recorded seven tackles each. Additionally, Berto Maldonado had a sack along with his three tackles.
For Nichols the passing game was prominent, Nicholas completed 10 of 19 passes for 268 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. They did not commit any turnovers or fumbles during the game. Dean, on the other hand, mishandled the ball four times and threw one interception, resulting in a turnover on one of the four fumbles.
