A monthlong drought came to an end on Saturday as the Franklin area was deluged by a solid day of rain. Unfortunately, Dean Football’s offensive drought continued, as the Bulldogs fell 50-0 to Curry College’s Colonels at Longley Athletic Complex.
Curry’s offensive performance was very effective from the start where they were able to score the very first drive of the game in 2 minutes and 35 seconds. Curry's starting quarterback, Michael Moriart’s performance was very solid, yet inconsistent at the same as he was able to pass the ball completing half of his passes (8/16) for 136 yards on the air with three touchdowns.
However, due to a combination of poor weather and indecisiveness, Moriant threw three interceptions to the Bulldogs secondary. Later in the game Curry’s backup QB Hunter Agosti went 2/2 for 45 yards on the air and threw for a touchdown. Curry ran the ball 37 times in total as RBs Montie Quinn and Omar E. Lee Jr. were able to combine for 157 total rushing yards in total, and the team was able to get three touchdowns on the ground. As for the passing game, their receivers caught a total of 10 catches for 181 yards and four touchdowns. Curry’s WRs Colin Ridley and Matthew Bowen were both able to get over 50 yards, three receptions, and a touchdown.
The Bulldogs were unable to match Curry’s scoring, as the Colonel’s sturdy defense kept starting Dean QB Amari Harris to 31 yards on the air, completing four for nine passes. Dean’s backup QB Nick Levine went in the game late going 0/1. As a whole, the Bulldogs were only able to muster 31 yards passing and 106 yards running throughout the game.
However, there were still a few bright spots for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs defense fought and played hard throughout the entire game. Dean’s secondary picked the ball off three different times during the game (sophomore DB Isaac Dorlean grabbed two and senior DB Darren Appiah grabbed one). First-year LB, Elijah Walker recorded six total tackles (five solo, one assist), two TFLs, and a sack. First-year DB, Syncere Bailey recorded six total tackles and a TFL. Senior DL, Berto Maldonado recorded two total tackles (one solo, one assist) and a TFL. Junior DL, Christian Donalson recorded two TFLs for 18 yards.
Hopefully, as the team moves forward to play against Nichols College next Saturday (9/28) they’ll be able to build on those promising moments with a stronger overall performance on defense, more production from the offense, and (hopefully) blue skies and sunshine for everyone in the field and stands.
