Here is an article for the theatre lovers on campus.
With the schools and businesses of New England beginning to thrive once again, Broadway in Boston is back and better than ever! Broadway performances of numerous shows started up again during the fall season of 2021 and are continuing. Too much of a hassle to travel to New York City? No problem! See your favorite Broadway performances right here in the Boston area. Boston has been showcasing Broadway level productions since 1984. Some of the most beloved and classic Broadway shows have been performed in Boston theaters such as the Boston Opera House, the Emerson Colonial Theatre, and the Wang Center.
Over 300 shows have been shown in the theatres of Boston in the past 38 years, making our area a gold mine for theatre lovers. These productions have included iconic shows such as the “Lion King,” “Aladdin,” “Wicked,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Finding Neverland,” and “Pretty Women,” which was showing in Boston just last month. I have personally seen at least five Broadway productions in Boston and all were thrilling experiences for me and my family. Now, after the long and exhausting break caused by the pandemic, Broadway in Boston is back once more to please audiences all over New England in the hopeful year that lies ahead.
According to research, the Broadway shows coming to Boston for the remainder of the year are scheduled as follows:
- “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical”: Feb. 22 – March 6 at (the Citizens Bank Opera House)
- “To Kill a Mockingbird”: April 5 – 17 at the Citizens Bank Boston Opera House
- Kicking off the start of summer, “Wicked,” the iconic musical that “defies gravity” will be showing at the Boston Opera House: June 8th – July 24th.
- Inspired by the beloved animated film, “Anastasia”, the Broadway musical will be waltzing its way through the Citizens Bank Opera House from August 17th through the 28th.
These are just some of the amazing musicals and entertaining performances coming through Boston for the rest of 2022.
Although it seems far away, in just under a year, the musical phenomenon “Hamilton” will kick off the Broadway in Boston season of 2023, starting January 17 and going through March 12. “Hamilton” will sure be getting the royal treatment in Boston next winter. For more information about these shows, or to purchase tickets, go to https://boston.broadway.com/#lexus_season.
Please be aware that due to the ongoing pandemic protocols, and the overall weather of New England, the details of these productions and dates are all subject to change.
Broadway shows may be pleasing audiences across the country once again to make us laugh, cry, and allow us to escape to something enlightening, comforting and fun. However, we should still be careful and considerate. We should continue to keep ourselves, and others, as healthy as possible. So, before you make plans to indulge in seeing a Broadway show, make sure you check with the pandemic protocols at the theater before you go. If we all continue to make a true effort, hopefully some time soon we will not have to worry about the theater world closing again!
