Franklin- In a conference matchup on Thursday afternoon, the Dean Bulldogs fell to the University Of Saint Joseph Blue Jays 4-2. Dean drops to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Blue Jays advance to 7-2-1.
Right out of the gate, Dean came out and controlled the ball for the first portion of the half. Strong communication benefited Dean early on, forcing pressure on Saint Joseph’s players. Although Dean produced minimal shots throughout that momentous effort, it appeared as only a matter of time before the Bulldogs would break through.
Towards the end of the first, the momentum swung to Saint Joseph as they started to threaten Dean’s zone. The Blue Jay’s pressure led to several shots on goal resulting in a 1-0 Blue Jays lead from Dane Stephen’s fourth goal on the season.
Less than a minute later, Benjamin Marchetti quickly made it 2-0 with his eighth goal on the season. Dean struggled to create plays offensively and ended the first half with zero points.
Dean entered the next half like the previous one, owning their opponent's territory. Following three-shot attempts, Luke Palmer broke the shoutout and put Dean on the scoreboard with his third goal on the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Unfortunately for Dean, they did not have much offensive success after that, as Dane Stephens scored his second goal to extend the lead to 3-1. Following Stephen’s, Joel Agbetossou struck as well, extending their lead to 4-1.
Dean still had hope late in the final half, as Connor Corbett scored his first goal of the season. Corbett's goal cut the deficit to 4-2, but it was not enough to spark a comeback.
The next matchup for Dean will see the Bulldogs on the road as they face Elms College on Saturday at 3:00.
