WEST HARTFORD-Dean College Men’s Soccer took the short trek down I-90 and 84 on Wednesday night to the University of St. Joseph’s (CT) rolling high off a 2-2 tie Saturday at New England, but they were greeted with a 4-0 loss. The loss leaves Dean still searching for their first win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play [0-2-1]. However, the Bulldogs saw plenty of positives on the scoresheet, keeping up with the conference’s now best team in shots on goal 13-13, saves 3-3, and beating them out in offsides calls 3-2.

Dean’s defense stood tall in the opening moments, holding the Blue Jays without a shot for the first eighteen minutes. In the nineteenth minute, the Blue Jays cashed in, as Michael Torres was gifted a penalty kick for St. Joseph’s that he placed perfectly in the top left corner of the cage for a 1-0 lead and his second goal of the young season. The Jays wouldn’t let up, scoring twice more in the first half at 28:46 courtesy of Jason Moleiro and at 33:34 via the strong foot of Emmanuel Ofori. The quick turn of events saw the Bulldogs head to break down 3-0 looking for answers.

St. Joseph’s would surrender several quality looks to Dean in the first few minutes of the game’s second half, but the Bulldogs just couldn’t crack through. The Blue Jays capped the scoring at 70:24 thanks to a Michael Torres header from about twenty-five yards out that gave the game its 4-0 final score.

“There’s plenty of work to be done as we start the preparation for this upcoming week of games," pointed out first-year forward Nate Beturne. “We’ve showed early on that we can compete with the region’s top teams, now we just need to show we can and get some results”.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at home this Saturday at 4 p.m. against Elms College. However, it will be a loaded day at Longley Athletic Complex, with the football team set to square off with Buffalo State at noon.
