FRANKLIN- Following an elite defensive performance on both sides, the Dean College Women’s Soccer team could not overcome the lone goal in their 1-0 loss to Elms College on Thursday as the Bulldogs fall to 3-2 on the season.

Elms College applied the pressure early, moving the ball well around Dean’s net at the beginning of the first half.

Dean struggled to string together offense early but put forth an exceptional effort defensively. Goalie Haley Gaunt put in everything she had early sprawling for many phenomenal saves at the net.

Nearly ten minutes in, Dean’s offense started to make some action of their own but struggled to maintain it.

Around the twenty-minute mark, Jamie McDonough broke through with her second goal of the year to give Elms College the 1-0 advantage.

With defense on both sides continuing to impress, Dean wound up trailing 1-0 at the half.

Down a goal, with hopes of staging a comeback, Dean stood quiet offensively. With great defense still being played, Elms College contested Dean well, denying any scoring opportunities on the opposing side.

Following the game, Junior Nina Medeiros spoke out on how she feels her team can improve going forward: “Just tweaking like minor things on our defensive end should help and on our offensive end just connecting more", Medeiros said.

Dean will hit the road for the first time this season, facing Lasell University on Saturday, September 16th, at 3:00 p.m.
