FRANKLIN, MA – The Dean College Bulldogs women’s volleyball squad was back in action at Pieri Gymnasium on Wednesday night as they took down the Colby Sawyer Chargers 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 24-26). Dean entered the game with lots of momentum on their side having bested Mitchell College 3-2 to close out their tri-match Saturday, while the Chargers sought to pick themselves up after four straight match losses.

In terms of the major statistical categories, each team controlled a number of them. Colby-Sawyer led in kills 28-27, attempts 120-108, and assists 27-23. Dean finished ahead in errors 22-26, hitting % .046-.017, points 44.0-39.0, aces 10-6, and blocks 7-5.

The Chargers relied a lot on their junior leadership core with a couple of their young, skilled players out due to injury. Junior Ally Majenski paced the way with seven kills, Junior Katie Mollberg added six digs and Junior Audra Fontes led the team with fourteen digs.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Janai Pierce, who popped up seven kills and eleven digs. Seniors Jenny Galley and Sari Albury pumped in five kills apiece. And sophomore Skylar Raskevitz finished with a stellar match-best fifteen digs. Dean saw debatably their most balanced attack of the season.

“The win was huge for us” exclaimed sophomore Skylar Raskevitz. “We took down another conference team that was ranked higher than us in the GNAC poll. This not only gives us confidence in ourselves we needed as players, but also carries us into the weekend with extra momentum on a hot streak,” she continued.

“Playing St. Joseph’s (CT) and Emmanuel will be two massive conference games for this weekend, and we hope to pull out the win. Both teams are beatable for us, as we recently beat Emmanuel in a long five-set match at the end of last season” Raskevitz finished.

The win moves Dean to 3-8 overall on the season and 2-1 in GNAC play. The Bulldogs will return to the court on Saturday for a tri-match at the University of Saint Joseph (CT) for a critical tri-match with two conference foes, the Blue Jays and Emmanuel starting at 11 a.m.
