PROVIDENCE- On what was a short trip distance-wise, the Bulldogs head back to Franklin after being swept 3-0 by the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen Tuesday evening. With the loss, Dean falls to 6-16 while the Anchorwomen improve to 7-11 on the season.

Marina Colonis started off hot for RIC scoring five quick points to put the Anchorwomen in front 5-0 early. Dean soon found themselves in a bigger hole, urging Bulldogs head coach Mark Ledwich to call a time-out after trailing 13-4.

Following the timeout, Dean began inching back into the set, cutting the lead to as little as five. Despite their late, momentous comeback attempt in set one, Dean was unable to tie or lead, dropping the first set 25-15.

Fueled by their frustration from the previous set, Dean began the second set off much stronger, taking an early 7-1 lead. Although starting strong offensively, Dean could not maintain the early six-point advantage as the Anchorwomen gradually crept back into set two.

After fighting to even up the score, RIC began taking control, eventually taking a 13-12 lead. In what had been a tight margin from start to finish, Dean could not get back in the set, falling in set two 25-19.

In another close set, both teams went back and forth to begin the third frame. With the Anchorwomen’s offense performing well in the sets prior, the success continued for RIC.

Despite the tight battle at the start of set three, RIC started to pull away as set three approached the middle mark.

After the game, Skylar Raskevitz answered upon what had pulled the Bulldogs just short a couple times.

“We often were unsure with ourselves and the people around us to make plays”, Skylar spoke. She also noted “when we play loud, energetic, and confident, that’s when we do our best.”

Dean attempted a comeback late, cutting their ten-point trail to only four. The Bulldog’s rally fell just short in the end, as RIC held on to take care of Dean 25-21 in the finale.

Dean will be back home to face Simmons University on Friday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m. to kick off Dean College’s homecoming weekend.
