On April 5th, I visited Central Pizza. It was my first time visiting the family-owned pizzeria, which has been operating for 30 years.
I walked in and found a very pleasant atmosphere within the small restaurant, vintage napkin dispensers, and signs, including some fun custom-made pizza boards containing the Central Pizza logo. It was exactly the kind of pizza place one would expect to find in any town, a family place, owned and operated for the last few decades in the same spot.

I was surprised and happy to discover that there was a plaque on the wall from Dean College declaring Central Pizza “the 2nd winner of the Franklin Pizza Throwdown” back in 2018. I had some expectations that this pizza would hold up to its reputation, especially when, while waiting for my pie, a couple who told me they had lived in Franklin their whole lives said that this was the best pizza in Franklin.
It was a Greek-style pizza with a thicker crust that was golden brown underneath and to the edges. It was fresh out of the oven and still steaming hot but cooled down just enough to take a bite.
Pros: I was delighted by the crispiness of the cheese while still being layered, as well as the sweetness of the sauce.
Cons: The pizza, while fresh out of the oven, was somewhat greasy.
Overall, I rate this slice an 8.2.
