Club Spotlight: Dean E-Sports

Over the past 12 months, most of the extra-curricular activities for all of us have been changed in some manner. With COVID protocols in mind, a lot of the group activities at Dean College have had to change their usual approach and schedule during the Spring semester, one of which being the Dean E-Sports club.

The E-Sports club has been running at Dean for a few years now, with the reigns of the club being passed around from student to student. Currently, the club is headed up by president Sam Rabinowitz, along with V.P Dylan Reilly, secretary David Shaw, treasurer James Scott, content creator Zachary Baldino, and community outreach coordinators Josh True and Kevin “Tiger” Shay. The E-Sports club has run tournaments and different community competitions in previous years, with large student interest across campus. Plans have slightly changed this semester, with events run bi-weekly and announced over Today@Dean and their club discord.

Events this semester have been mostly Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers tournaments, but the club is looking to expand into team-based games in the future. This would include popular games such as Fortnite and Rocket League, and could expand to more based on the interest shown. Events are usually run in the Campus Center atrium, with CoVerified checks and clean-ups throughout to ensure each person’s safety. Spots are running more limited now for events, so make sure you’re signing up ASAP!

On March 26th, the club is running their biggest event of the year thus far, a Mario Kart event celebrating the diversity we see in gaming today and fighting against discrimination. In addition, the club plans on running a gift card raffle, with each person bringing a menstrual item receiving an entry. The event starts at 7pm, so don’t forget to check it out!

With any interest of joining the Discord or hearing about future events, please reach out to a E-Sports Executive Board member for more information!
