Club Spotlight: Project Green

World Mental Health Day was this past Sunday, Oct. 10. The day raises awareness of mental health issues, advocates for mental health support and helps to break the stigma surrounding mental illness.

One of Dean’s own clubs exemplifies the mission of this international day, every day: Project Green. Project Green is Dean College’s on campus mental health advocacy club. In the words of the club’s Vice President, Hannah Ranco, the club’s “meetings consist of discussion centered around [creating] a better environment in relationship to mental health and the Dean community.”

They continue by stating the club’s mission as “to give resources to those who need it and create opportunities for education and discussion on campus.” This open dialogue the club facilitates is the key to breaking the mental health stigma and encouraging college students to seek help if needed.

The club’s main annual event is the Project Green Showcase which will take place Nov. 20 in the Guidry Center at 7:00pm. This year, the showcase will expand beyond dancing and singing to include visual art, poetry, and more. Audition and submission info can be found at @projectgreendc and the club’s Presence page.

When asking Ranco why Dean students should join, she said, “We are a fun club with good vibes! We care about the community’s mental health and want to make a difference!”

Project Green meets Monday’s at 7:00pm in Campus Center room 201.
