True Colors is a new club on campus. Michaela Coombs, the President of True Colors, and Rachel Castagnetti, the Vice President, met with The Dean Daily to discuss their excitement about the club.
True Colors is “all inclusive,” said Coombs.
“We are accepting of everyone, no matter their race, gender, sex or orientation,” said Castagnetti.
True Colors is a club for “anyone who wants to feel included in a place where they feel that they don’t belong,” said Coombs.
This club is very important to its members.
Not only are they an all-inclusive club, but many events are also hosted by True Colors.
“We usually host karaoke night, paint night, movie night and a table at Fresh Check Day,” said Castagnetti. “Our club meetings are every other Wednesday from 6-7 pm, location TBD.”
National LGBT History Month
October was National LGBT History Month, which is different from Pride Month in June.
“Pride Month celebrates the riots that re-sparked the kindling fire for pride,” said Coombs.
“October has more transparency needed for people, such as the transgender community, for the ability of being seen.”
Castagnetti also added that not only is October National LGBT History Month, but Oct. 11 was National Coming Out Day.
True Colors has great meaning to its members.
“Other people can be included, even if you’re accepted by your family or not, everyone is family to me,” said Coombs. “This club is family.”
“We want people to have a safe space on campus,” said Castagnetti.
If you’re looking to get involved with True Colors, go to their planned events. Castagnetti added that “eventually we will start an Instagram page.”
