FRANKLIN- In a high scoring first game, Dean’s strong offense led them past Anna Maria 8-6
Anna Maria threatened early after a leadoff walk but was unable to spark anything with the bases full. Bulldogs starting pitcher Jillian Glynn worked well around the base-loaded jam surrendering zero runs in the frame.
Anna Maria broke through first in the top third with a two-run homer by Madison Marie- Romano off a leadoff error by Dean second baseman Jaylee Martinez.
Following a quick strikeout to start the bottom fifth, Dean's offense woke up. Sydney Ramos took advantage of a one-out walk with a rbi triple to right field, scoring Martinez. Alex Marie would follow with a single up the middle to cut the deficit to one. With momentum now in their favor, a hit batter would set up Sari Albury for a two-run homer of her own, flipping the game around to a 5-3 Bulldogs lead.
In the bottom fifth, red-hot Sari Albury left the park again for the second time in the game, hitting a solo shot to expand their lead to 6-3.
The Amcats were not going down without a fight, scoring two runs in their top sixth to tie the game at six. A strong relay throw to home from Dean’s defenders on Sabrina Listor’s game-tying single kept the game tied going into the bottom half of the inning.
In the bottom six, the Bulldogs broke the tie with a two-out, rbi double by Jillian Glynn, handing Dean an 8-6 lead going into the seventh.
The Bulldogs would hang on to secure victory in game one over Anna Maria, 8-6.
Coach Silveira believed that “Key hits when they needed it”, made a difference in Dean's win.
In matchup number two, the Amcats responded to their first-game loss with an explosive 9-2 over the Bulldogs.
The Amcats got off to a fast start, getting seven runs. Anna Maria would never look back, pushing their way to a 9-2 bounce back win in five innings.
Dean’s next game will be a doubleheader away against Albertus Magnus Sunday, April 2nd, at noon.
