Dean College's women’s soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Longley Field against the Mitchell College Mariners Wednesday afternoon. Both teams entered the game winless on the season.
The first half was quiet, thanks to the excellent defense shown by both teams around the whole field. As a result, this led to minimal scoring chances in the first forty-five minutes.
Just below the two-minute mark of the first half, red-hot Jazzy Sztyler-Magee cashed through for the second time this season and gave her team a 1-0 lead. Sztyler-Mage
e scored high left of the net, unassisted, and is now responsible for both goals she and her team have scored so far this year.
Entering the second half, the Bulldogs came out strong, causing high action around the Mariner’s net. Dean's communication improved mightily from the previous half, which led to more steals, fewer turnovers, and smoother play.
Although there were no further goals following the first one, Dean still managed to stand their ground by continuing to threaten the Mariner’s zone and prevent any goals from their opponent.
Following the well-deserved win, Dean’s Women's soccer team improved to a record of 1-2-1. The Bulldogs will be back at it again Sunday morning against Rivier University, home, at Grant Field.
