Franklin-The Dean College women’s soccer team heads back to the win column on Sunday afternoon after a 3-1 victory against the Norwich Cadets. Dean advances to 2-8-3 on the season, while Norwich falls to 3-9-1.

From the get-go, Dean’s communication and teamwork led to early scoring chances and strong defense. Thanks to Dean’s sprinting efforts early on, they encountered a few breakaways but fell shy of scoring on their first attempts. Twelve minutes in, Bulldog’s Jazzy Style-Magee struck first on a beautiful assist by Emma Toscano, scoring right of the net, making it 1-0. Later in the first half, Dean hit a bump, and they began turning the ball over more frequently to the Cadets. With less than ten minutes in the first, Norwich’s Antonia Pellon tied it up on an assist by Isabel Doherty. Going into halftime, both teams were knotted up at one apiece.

Going into the first five minutes of the second half, Dean struggled to get the ball out of their zone. Norwich had the momentum and produced three shots in five minutes. Unfourtantley for the Cadets, all three attempts failed to make it into the net.

The tables soon turned in favor of Dean, as the Bulldogs got closer and closer to breaking the tie, but the game remained tied well into the half. Finally, Jazzy Styler-Magee scored her second goal of the game and her eighth on the season, fifteen minutes in. Ten minutes later, unstoppable Styler-Magee, snuck one just passed the reaching goalie, Karis, for her third of the game and ninth on the season to put Dean up 3-1. The Cadets failed to respond, and as time ran out, the game ended in a well-earned Dean victory.

Dean will be back at it, home on Wednesday, against Albertus Magnus College at 3:00 PM.
