On Thursday, the Dean College’s men's basketball team played a well-fought game against Holy Cross. Going into this game, Dean came off their season opener in a win against Curry College 82-44. In this game, the Bulldogs had an exhibition matchup with Holy Cross University, a division one school. Dean students and faculty had a watch party for the game in Franklin, as the game was streamed on ESPN.
At the start of the game, Dean won the tip-off and went on a terrific run, and even led Holy Cross 19-14. However, Holy Cross went on shooting clinic for threes and imposed stifling defense. The Bulldogs ended the first half trailing 33-44. In the first half, Dean was called for ten questionable calls.
At the start of the second half, Holy Cross took over by pressing on defense, making wide-open shots, and playing zone covers on offense. The Bulldogs kept the game close by pressing, playing smart, and aggressively. Junior transfer A.J Weston went on a scoring clinic from three, which had Holy Cross in the last five minutes of the game double-teaming him.
Holy Cross beat Dean 85-71 and now has a 1-1 record. The Bulldogs, now have a 1-1 record. ESPN player of the game went to Will Batchelder who led Holy Cross with twenty-four points. As for Dean, the biggest story for the Bulldogs was A. J Weston, who had twenty-two points and shot 4-8 from three.
The Bulldogs should take this game as appreciation because they went up against a division one school, played their very best, and made Dean proud. The Bulldogs next game will be on the road against Bridgewater State University tomorrow at 5:00 pm in Bridgewater, MA.
