Dean Can’t Maintain Early Lead vs. Massachusetts Maritime

FRANKLIN-- Dean College baseball lost to Massachusetts Maritime Academy 11-4 on Tuesday afternoon to fall 1-9 on the season. The Bulldogs scored two first-inning runs thanks to an RBI triple by Jacob Paschetto, which was then followed by a sacrifice fly by Andrew Sullivan. The Buccaneers responded by drawing five walks in the next half inning resulting in three runs. Dean regained the lead in the fourth following run-scoring hits from Brian Dovidio and Andrew Sullivan. Conner Coulter then tied the game at four for Massachusetts Maritime in the sixth with an RBI single. Later, the Buccaneers broke the game open in the seventh with a three-hit, four-run inning.

AJ Pietrafesa and Brett Velzis each had three hits in the game for the Buccaneers. Hunter Dean threw a complete game, a rare occurrence nowadays in baseball, allowing ten hits, three earned runs, and striking out five.

For the Bulldogs, Jacob Paschetto had three hits, and Seth Cruz had two. Dean used four pitchers in the game, and Conner Nooney was charged with the loss allowing four earned runs across three innings. The Bulldogs will play Bates College on Thursday at 3:30 at Longley Athletic Complex.
