This Saturday at Longley Athletic Complex in Franklin, MA, the 0-1 Dean College Bulldogs take on the 0-2 Curry College Colonels in a Division III GNAC matchup. The Bulldogs look to improve to .500 after dropping their season opener to Fitchburg State, losing 12-0 two weeks ago.
Dean College’s defense was the lone bright spot in their home opener against the Falcons back on September 7, recording 3 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 8 tackles for loss. However, the offense never got in a groove, as both quarterbacks, Sophomore, Nick Levine and Freshman, Amari Harris, threw for a combined 62 yards, 1 interception and where sacked a combined 7 times as the offensive line struggled to protect the quarterbacks and the run game, which totaled only 51 yards on the ground. The top players to watch for the Bulldogs are headlined by two defensive linemen, Junior, Christian Donaldson, and Senior, Austin Roy, who both combined for 14 tackles against Fitchburg State.
As for Curry, they, too, are hungry for their first-season victory. The Colonels are coming off a 73-21 home opener loss against No. 13 Hardin-Simmons, the first of three ranked opponents on their schedule. Sophomore QB, Michael Moriarty has started both games thus far and has completed 19 passes for 180 yards with 2 interceptions. Junior RB, Montie Quinn leads the Colonels in total yards with 227 and 1 touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Junior DL, Pete Jurovich III has recorded 2 sacks and is averaging 3.5 tackles per game, and Sophomore DB, Lucas Leander has tallied 8 tackles and the team's only interception.
Since 2018, Curry has defeated Dean three straight games, with the most recent matchup taking place last season in Milton, MA, resulting in a convincing 47-14 Colonels victory. This will be the third straight season these GNAC rivals go head-to-head. Both teams head into this game with their last win dating back to last October.
