The Dean College Football team lost 27-0 to MIT on Saturday afternoon at Dale Lippert Field on Homecoming weekend.
MIT got on the board first with a 35-yard field goal by Mark Wright with 7:09 remaining in the first quarter.
Shortly after, MIT made it 10-0 after a 5-yard touchdown run by Jay Theriault.
A big theme for the Bulldogs in this game revolved around multiple missed opportunities on offense. One of the big missed opportunities was when the Bulldogs had a pass from quarterback David Curry completed from their own 15-yard line which went to wide receiver Errol Breaux who ran to MIT’s 25-yard line. However, two plays after that Breaux caught another pass that he fumbled after getting hit hard which led to MIT recovering the ball at their own 15-yard line. Another missed opportunity for Dean was in the third quarter when they had a touchdown that was taken away because of a holding penalty. The Bulldogs also had a missed opportunity when they were getting into MIT’s territory and quarterback David Curry threw a pass that was tipped and intercepted.
While the score might not show it, Dean’s defense did a pretty good job at bending but not breaking. While they were able to get a couple of stops, at the end of the day they bent too much as they still gave up 336 rushing yards. Also, Dean’s offense running a lot of hurry ups did not give the defense much time to rest as they were constantly on the field.
MIT responded with a 5-yard touchdown run by Brady Klein to make it 17-0.
MIT also scored right before halftime thanks to a 31-yard field goal by Mark Wright to make it 20-0.
MIT scored a touchdown in the third quarter with a 1- yard touchdown run from Ashton Robinson to make it 27-0.
Dean Quarterback David Curry finished 14-27 with 157 yards, two interceptions and 31 rushing yards. Wide receiver Errol Breaux was the Bulldogs leading receiver with 109 yards and six receptions.
Dean Senior free safety Kordell Scott had 12 tackles and a pass break-up and freshman Malachi Reeves had eight tackles with two of them coming for a loss of yards.
MIT senior George Schultz led all Engineers players with 117 rushing yards on 18 carries. MIT had 400 total yards with 336 of them coming on the ground.
Dean junior linebacker Desmond Dias was named the Thomas “Butchie” Williams 75 Homecoming Game Most Valuable Player.
The Bulldogs fall to 1-3 and will have their conference opener on the road at Gallaudet next week, while MIT improves to 2-1 and will have their conference opener at Catholic.
