The Dean College women’s bulldogs went head-to-head with Curry College in their home gym for the first game of the season. In this game for Dean, the leading scorer was senior, Cat Thomas, with 11 points and 11 boards. First year Kendrah Doane from New Salem, Mass put in four points and six rebounds in her first college game, playing a good amount of it.
Curry’s leading scorer was sophomore Lauren Dunn, with 20, and their other Sophomore Ellery Campbell had a double-double off the bench. Their Freshman Lauren Morse finished with 16.
The game started off pretty good, with Dean staying in it throughout most of the first quarter, until Curry pulled away to make the end of the first quarter 15-9. In the second quarter, Curry shot the ball well and outscored Dean 31-2. The halftime score was 46-15. In the third quarter, Curry made most of their free throws, but Curry was held to just over 30% shooting from the floor. The score was 63-17 at the end of the third. Both teams would shoot the ball over 50% in the 4th quarter, and Curry only outscored Dean by two points. Overall shooting, Curry’s field goal percentage was .397 to Dean’s .255. Dean didn’t make a single three pointer in the game but won the battle for free throw percentage.
This weekend, Dean (0-1) will play at Mount Holyoke on Saturday at 12pm. Curry (1-0) will head to New York this weekend to take part in the Elmira Tipoff tournament.
