FRANKLIN- The Dean College Women’s Lacrosse team fell 17-12 to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers Friday afternoon at Grant Field.
The first quarter was an evenly contested matchup, as Jazzy Sztyler-Magee drew first blood for the Bulldogs, followed by a goal from Nina Medeiros. Colby-Sawyer was able to get on the board, but it was quickly canceled out by a goal from Haley Gaunt assisted by Allie Bezio. However, the Chargers closed the gap to 3-2 in the final minutes of the first.
The period opened again with a Sztyler-Magee tally to extend the lead to 4-2, but Colby-Sawyer refused to let Dean pull away as they scored two goals only a minute apart to level the scores. The Bulldogs and Chargers traded goals throughout the quarter, including goals from Medeiros and Maire Brown. Colby-Sawyer took the lead with eight minutes remaining, and that goal would be enough to take the lead 7-6 into the half.
The third quarter opened with a goal from Alisha Caldeira to tie the game at 7-7. Shortly after, the Chargers scored the first of five unanswered goals to give Colby a 12-7 lead. Dean replied twice to cut the lead to three, courtesy of goals by Gaunt and Sztyler-Magee. With only one minute remaining, the Chargers scored twice to earn a 14-9 lead with fifteen minutes left to play.
The final quarter saw both teams score three times in back-and-forth action. Brown, Sztyler-Magee, and Bezio all scored for the Bulldogs, but it wouldn’t be enough as Colby held onto a 17-12 lead to end the game.
This loss sets Dean back to 4-5, and they will travel to Paxton, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 5th to take on the Anna Maria Amcats at Caparso Field at 6 pm.
