DUDLEY—Dean College football fell to Nichols College 71-55 in a high-scoring game on Friday night at Vendetti Field. Both teams combined for an incredible 126 points and 1,001 yards of offense.
The game went back and forth until the start of the fourth quarter when Dean pulled to within two points after scoring a rushing touchdown by Ki’sean Bullard to make it 57-55 but failed on the subsequent two-point conversion.
After that, the Bison ran away in style with two rushing touchdowns in the final 5:31 to ice the game. Nichols dominated on the ground all day thanks in large part to their running backs Shayne Sutton, who had 156 yards and two touchdowns, and Zaher Booker, who finished with 124 yards and two touchdowns. Both running backs together combined for four touchdowns and 280 rushing yards.
Nichols’ quarterback Xavier Powell also put on a show finishing 12-23 passing, which was good for 198 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Powell also had three rushing touchdowns on nine attempts for 55 yards. As a team, Nichols rushed for 387 yards, far exceeding Dean’s total of 71 yards on the ground.
For the Bulldogs, another big problem was too many penalties as they had a total of ten for 130 yards.
Dean quarterback and reigning Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Offensive Player of The Week, Nathan Cisco, finished 16-30 for 346 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. The six touchdowns are the most since Terrell Watts had seven in a 50-46 win over Alfred State back on November 2nd, 2019.
Bulldog’s wide receiver Mozes Mooney led the way in receiving with six receptions, 144 yards, and three touchdowns. Jordan Mason finished behind him with six receptions, 120 yards, and no touchdowns.
Dean, 0-2, will be back in action on Saturday, September 17th, when they host Curry College in their home opener, with kickoff set for noon.
