CASTLETON— The Dean Bulldogs Football team was shut out 39-0 in their first conference game of the season against Castleton University at Dave Wolk Stadium on Saturday night.
The only scoring in the first quarter was a 32-yard field goal by Noah Crossman that gave Castleton a 3-0 lead. At halftime, the Spartans led 17-0 and scored an additional twenty-two points in the third quarter.
Castleton quarterback Evan Smith finished 18-24, which was good for 225 yards, two touchdowns, and two scores on the ground.
Spartans’ wide receiver Jackson Brand had three receptions for fifty-six yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Damiyr Martinez and Kevin McDonough each had eight tackles which led the team.
For the Bulldogs, quarterback Nathan Cisco made his first start in two weeks after being out with a concussion. Cisco finished 15-22 for 99 yards and an interception.
Dean running back Holden Wilson led the fullbacks with sixty yards rushing. On the receiving side, Quintus Reid finished with eight receptions for fifty-eight yards.
On the defensive side of the pigskin, Dre Kidd, Matt Blake, and Kai reeves each had seven tackles. Reeves also had a sack and a quarterback hurry on top of that.
Dean, 0-5 and 0-1 in conference play, will have a bye week this weekend and will be back in action on Parents Weekend, Saturday, October 15th to host Gallaudet University at noon.
