On Wednesday, the Dean College Bulldogs men’s soccer team played against Regis College and took their second loss of the season with the final score of 2-1.
As their prior game against Lasell University ended in a tie, the Bulldogs entered the game against Regis with the goal to attack early and make sure no offensive player on Regis got pass them. Regis College was also coming from off a loss and were as eager to win. For their goalkeeper, Freddie Beckmann who is from Franklin, Massachusetts and had family and friends in the stands, a win against Dean College’s Bulldogs was important.
As the game started, the Bulldogs were fired up as they lined up on the field for kick-off. They planned to run a 4-4-2 formation. Their first half looked spectacular with them finding a lot of open gaps to cover ground down the middle of the field. However, as the first half ended, the Bulldogs failed to get a goal.
In the second half, Regis College came out strong by getting two goals in the first five minutes from Jeremiah Frias and Damien Booker. The game went on to be intense with both teams receiving offside calls and yellow cards from the referees. The Bulldogs were tripped multiple times in the red zone by Regis’ defenders causing Bulldog players and coaching staff to be furious. At the eighty third minute, the Bulldogs’ Melvin Alves drilled a terrific left side kick to cut the Regis lead to one. However, Regis’ defense wasted the clock and was able to secure the win giving them a 4-3 record and 1-0 GNAC record.
The Bulldogs now have a 3-2-1 record, and 0-2 GNAC record. Their next game will be an away game against Rivier University. Let’s hope they can bounce back and win.
