Competitive gaming has become a worldwide phenomenon in recent years. With the collaboration of some students, e-sports were introduced to Dean College by forming the Dean E-Sports Organization, which includes several passionate members.
Dean E-Sports is a collective of students with a strong interest in competitive and casual gaming. The team offers opportunities in games such as Overwatch 2, VALORANT, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Liana Littell, Co-President of Dean E-Sports, states that the organization started as a club that was solely based around Super Smash Bros. tournaments. As the club grew over time, it expanded into other competitive games.
As of now, Dean E-Sports currently has two active rosters that compete in the NECC, an online collegiate e-sports league that offers weekly tournaments across 300 enrolled universities. The two lineups consist of an Overwatch 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team, but according to Littell, a VALORANT roster is being developed as it is going through a rebuild.
“We currently have a few new members that I heard were VALORANT players as we start the new year,” says Littell. “We’re looking for anyone who is willing to play and is passionate about the games we offer”.
Despite the daunting aspect of competitive gaming, Dean E-Sports welcomes casual video game players to attend meetings alongside their competitive lineups. “I just want to create a fun, safe, and semi-competitive community…just for the passion, I’d say” states Littell. “I appreciate what video games create for people and the drive it brings to them”.
