In the Bulldog’s attempt to cease their struggles Wednesday night, their strong efforts just weren’t quite enough. Deans’ women’s volleyball team took a tough loss and fell to 2-9 on the season.
Early in the first set, Dean was rolling and winning the first three plays.
Following Dean’s early lead, producing and receiving serves became a challenge for the bulldogs, causing the Bucs to jump right back in. In a well contested, seesaw first set, Mass Maritime was able to eke out a 25-20 victory, starting them at 1-0.
Once the second set rolled around, Dean again jumped out to a 3-0 lead but fell apart, trailing by as many as four. Head coach, Mark Ledwich, didn’t like what he was seeing, twelve plays in, and called a timeout.
Following the short break, Dean found a groove, continued to climb, and wound up coming back to win set two 25-19 to end Dean’s, 0-9 winless set streak.
Dean was unable to carry their momentum from the previous set, resulting in a 2-1 deficit after an extremely close third set. Mass Maritime continued to soar in set four, edging out Dean 25-22 in another even match. The Bucs locked up their second win of the year, advancing to 2-6, after a 3-1 final.
“It’s a young team working on our growing pains “, Head Coach Mark Ledwich states, following the game when asked about the recent struggles.
Dean’s next game will be at Regis College, on September 24th, at 10:00 AM.
