Franklin-Dean women’s volleyball dropped their eleventh straight matchup after getting swept Wednesday night 3-0 by the Johnson & Wales Wildcats. Dean falls to 2-14 on the year, as the Wildcats improve to 5-5.

Set one didn’t get off to a good start for Dean, causing a timeout by Head Coach Mark Ledwich after Johnson & Wales had a lead of 10-4. Coming out of the timeout, Dean seemed to find a groove as they cut the deficit to 10-8. The Bulldogs could not maintain the momentum as they took an additional time out after falling 13-9. Coming off from the second timeout, Dean fell apart and wound up losing the first set 25-13.

The second set was competitive until the Wildcats lead quickly increased to 10-5, causing another Dean timeout. Dean could not fix their mistakes, pressuring the need for another timeout as their deficit grew to 16-9. Dean crept back into the set but narrowly lost set two by a score of 25-21.

In set three, Dean came out rolling early, hoping to avoid a sweep, as they took an early 3-0 lead. Dean held on to the lead until Johnson and Whales took the lead right back. Dean trailed for the rest of the set but was always within reach. At 22-20, three points away from losing the game, Dean called a timeout as they tried to win the final set. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, that wasn’t enough, resulting in three consecutive loss sets.

Dean’s next game will be Friday, September 30th, against the University of Saint Joseph at 5:00.
