Dean College Bulldogs senior wide receiver Errol Breaux was awarded player of the week as well as the New England Football Writers Gold Helmet award after a dominant performance in week one versus Fitchburg State. In that game, Breaux collected eight receptions for 247 yards and six touchdowns with five of them on the receiving end. Shortly after his spectacular performance, I had a chance to catch up with Errol to learn more about his back story on why he chose Dean and what has made him successful.
When Breaux was searching for a college to continue to play football at, Dean was a no brainer in his mind. Breaux found out about Dean from his former teammate Shannon Moxey and found it to be a great fit. “I felt Dean was a great fit for me considering that I had no offers coming out of Juco at the time.” Breaux played junior college football at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas. Breaux also feels that since being at Dean he has grown since when he played from 2018 until now.
What makes Breaux’s talent standout this season is that he only met quarterback David Curry last Spring. “Having all the extra time to practice one-on-one with each other allowed us to have a greater bond on the field to understand how one another plays.” Breaux also credits the workouts he does in the offseason as part of his success so far. Typically, Breaux lifts weights in June and then works on catching passes and improving his footwork in July.
When COVID-19 hit and cancelled all the fall sports in 2020, there was a big decision that Breaux had to make about his playing future at the college level as he was supposed to graduate after that season. “I had just moved into an off-campus apartment because I thought we were going to have a season. When I found out that the season was cancelled, I was devastated because it would have been my last year.” This was an enormous decision for him to make since he had been playing football since he was four years old and suddenly, his career could have been over. However, Errol decided to skip the spring semester so he could play one last season with the Bulldogs.
