After a very tough loss against University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, we knew that we had to play better the next week. We were all set to take a road trip to Maine to play the highly respected Husson University Eagles. Beating this team would be a tall task, especially on the road, in a shorter week, because the game was scheduled to take place on a Friday instead of a Saturday. We were locked in as a team and had some amazing practices that were full of energy and excitement.
Friday came in the blink of an eye, and we were set to battle Husson University. Eagles running back Garrett Poussard rushed for a 9-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the game. Later in the first quarter, Husson University receiver Jon Bell extended the Eagles lead to 14 points when he took a catch 80 yards for a score. To start the second, quarterback David Curry gave us energy and momentum when he rushed for a 1-yard touchdown. Eagles quarterback Nic Visser threw his second passing touchdown to Wenston Dinizio to extend the Eagles lead to 14 points again. The Eagles then took a 28-7 lead going into the half with a 5-yard Garrett Poussard run.
Poussard then scored his third rushing touchdown of the game in the third quarter. Star receiver Errol Breaux then rushed for a 1-yard Bulldogs touchdown. Breaux has done a great job finding the end zone for us this season. This was his seventh touchdown of the season already. Jon Bell then caught a touchdown to close the game out for the Eagles.
Defensive Back Keontay Maxwell was one of the few bright spots for the team as he recorded 8 tackles and 2 pass break ups for our defense. It was great to see him having success on the field as he is a great teammate and a vocal leader on the defensive side of the ball for us. We lost 42-14. This was another tough road loss.
We know that we must work much harder and bring out our “A” game all week in practice. We must have a better showing next week. We must be better prepared for a week 4 matchup against another tough opponent in MIT. We must give our fans something to cheer about at our Homecoming game.
