Inside the Bulldog Huddle - Week 4 Recap

After an extremely rough road loss in Maine at Husson University, we knew that we had to come together as a team to work harder and to strive for a much better result in our next game. After all, the next game, which was set to take place on Dale Lippert Field, was our big homecoming matchup vs MIT. This game was extremely important to us. It was going to be an environment that would be completely different from the previous matchups this season. The stadium was expected to be packed with students, dance performers, the Pom Team, alumni, staff, and families because this was Dean’s Alumni and Family Weekend too. The festivities included a barbecue during the game. We practiced extremely hard during the week and had an amazing practice on the Thursday before the game. The offense started the practice by getting riled up in the warmups. Then the defense joined in and fed off this contagious energy which led to probably the best practice of the year.

Saturday came in a flash. Before we knew it, we were in our pregame meeting with Coach Tirrell and he was giving us one of his passionate speeches to help us get mentally prepared for the big game. We were brimming with excitement as we took our football equipment from our residence halls to the Ewan Hall parking lot to load on the buses that would take us to Dale Lippert Field. We stepped onto the field with one mission in mind. Beat MIT.

MIT came out firing on all cylinders in the first half and took a 20-0 lead. Leaders on the team like QB David Curry made sure that everyone on the team kept their heads high after the really disappointing first half. They reminded us that we were still in the game. We knew that we had to make a statement by closing the twenty-point deficit in the third quarter. Instead, MIT then came out and scored another touchdown creating a 27-0 lead which would eventually be the final score after a very quick fourth quarter. Unfortunately, we could not get our offense going in this game. And our defense had a tough time stopping the MIT offense, especially their run game.

On the brighter side, linebacker Desmond Dias was crowned the Thomas "Butchie" Williams '75 Homecoming Game Most Valuable Player for Dean. This difficult loss makes us 1-3 going into a conference matchup in Washington D.C. against Gallaudet University for our next game. It is time for us to step up and change the narrative. More on that in next week’s edition of Inside the Bulldog Huddle.
