Inside the Bulldog Huddle – Week 8 Recap

After an incredible win against Keystone College, we learned that we had a clean sweep of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards.

Junior quarterback David Curry was named the ECFC Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore Dre Kidd earned ECFC Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Mason Dill was honored as ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week. It was great to see these three players succeed and take home these awards. David Curry and Dre Kidd are great vocal leaders on this team as they motivate the rest of us to bust our tails and work extremely hard in every drill. Mason Dill is also a great leader, by example, on Special Teams. In addition to all of this, Dre Kidd was also named to the DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Honor Roll.

This great news led us to believe that we could spoil Anna Maria College’s homecoming. They are a division rival and a team that we badly wanted to beat. We prepared all week for the game with great intensity.

On Saturday, it was time to make some noise in Paxton, Massachusetts. The game started with two touchdown passes from Anna Maria quarterback Alex Cohen to give the Anna Maria Amcats a 14-0 lead. We then answered back with a 44-yard Quintus Reid touchdown grab. Amcat quarterback Alex Cohen then rushed for a 1-yard touchdown. David Curry proceeded to rush for his own 1-yard touchdown, but we missed the extra point and cut the deficit to 8 points. The Amcats then scored another touchdown pass through the air and kicked a field goal to take a 31-13 lead into halftime.

We knew we had to bounce back and cut the lead down in the third quarter. The Amcats quickly threw another touchdown to start the 3rd quarter. Ki’sean Bullard took an 80-yard kickoff return to the house and gave us tons of momentum with the spectacular highlight reel play. Quintus Reid then caught his second touchdown of the day. We failed on a 2-point conversion. This made it a 38-26 ball game. Anna Maria quarterback Alex Cohen then threw his 5th touchdown pass of the day. We answered back with a 2-yard touchdown run by David Curry, but it was too little too late.

Anna Maria College beat us 45-32. It was another crushing defeat. We now need to keep our heads up and focus on beating Maritime College next week.
