Inside the Bulldog Huddle – Week 9 Recap

After another very difficult loss against Anna Maria, we stood at 2-6 and knew that we had to do more. We did not want to end the season with a mere 2 wins and knew that we had to work extremely hard all week in preparation for a matchup vs SUNY Maritime.

Maritime was coming into the game with a 1-5 record, so we knew that this was a very winnable game. This was a big game that would allow us to potentially close out the year with 2 wins. It would also give us the ability to send off our seniors with something to remember from their last couple of games as Dean College Bulldogs. We worked hard to prepare for the game in some of the coldest and wettest practices of the season. We knew that solid preparation would be crucial for the game as the weather forecast projected rain for the Saturday showdown.

On Saturday, rain was pouring on Dale Lippert Field, just as advertised. Defensive Coordinator Coach Campbell gave our defense a passionate pep talk to mentally prepare us for the game and to protect our home field. When the game started, we were ready to send the message that we would not back down. Maritime quarterback David Keogh threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to running back Christian Schiavone to give the Privateers a 7-0 lead to start the game. Then receiver Ki’Sean Bullard rushed for a 9-yard touchdown to tie the game up. With 1:55 left in the second quarter, the Privateers scored on another touchdown pass to take a 14-7 lead into the half.

At half time, Coach Tirrell told us that we must win the third quarter and dominate the fourth quarter to come out on top with a win. Quarterback David Curry rushed for a 14-yard touchdown to start the 3rd quarter on a strong note. Maritime College answered back with a Christian Schiavone touchdown. We then tied the game up again when quarterback David Curry connected with wide receiver Quintis Reid for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Privateer Kicker Joseph Gagliardi then launched a 29-yard field goal to top off an 8 play 50-yard drive. Maritime College got on the board again when quarterback David Keogh threw his 3rd touchdown pass of the day to Privateer wide receiver Ian Derda. Quintus Reid then caught his second touchdown of the day. Sadly it was not enough.

We lost 31-27 and have now dropped to 2-7. We are in a desperate search for answers that could lead us to our third win on November 13th after our bye week. More on that and the season recap after the big senior day game.
