As we celebrate our 2022 Dean College graduating class, we want to spotlight one of our graduating seniors, Jake Baskin. Jake attended Dean College for two years as a Sports Broadcasting major who has covered Dean's games for baseball, football, basketball, and volleyball. Jake has also broadcasted games for the Northeast Generals Hockey team in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Jake came to Dean College because he wanted to finish his last two years at a smaller college where he could study with other sports broadcasters. Dean College was a great fit for him because of the internship connections.
Jake describes the Sports Broadcasting program here at Dean College to be fun and exactly what he wanted in a program. He shared “I needed the networking and connections” and “I got what I needed from Dean.” Outside of Dean, Jake has been able to gain broadcasting experience with the Northeast Generals, a junior hockey team.
The sports broadcasting program has helped Jake develop into a leader. Jake understands the importance of experience and networking. At every Sports Broadcasting meeting, Jake is always encouraging other students in the program to broadcast games with him.
Jake said the one thing he will miss being at Dean is seeing people. With COVID-19 restrictions lightened over the past year, he was finally able to have the college experience he was hoping for, and he is sad to see it end.
After he graduates, Jake will broadcast this summer for the Upper Valley Nighthawks of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Afterward, he will continue to take jobs from the streaming service he works for and look for broadcasting work.
Jake Baskin has a bright future ahead. We are looking forward to hearing about all the remarkable things he does in the sports broadcasting industry!
