WGAO’s Power 88.3 FM does several Accepted Students Day events every school year. On Saturday, April 5, Power 88.3 was featured in the Atrium area behind the staircase inside the Campus Center to support Accepted Students Day. The General Manager and six Student Directors for Power 88.3 helped make the setup of the remote broadcast possible.
The people in the Power 88.3 photograph (from left to right) are Rachel Geddes (Junior, Training Director), Jacob Wagner (First year, New Production Director), Tyler Lawton (Senior, Promotions Director), Nate Merowitz (Senior, Assistant Production Director), and Nina Medeiros (Senior, Music Director). David Usher (Senior, Production Director) was also involved with helping the Power 88.3 Remote Broadcast behind the scenes operating the board in the radio station for the second half of the remote on Friday [not shown in the photograph above].
The student directors for Power 88.3 had lots of fun at the Remote Broadcast as they were able to talk about a range of topics on the airwaves. For the Introduction Break, all the student directors introduced themselves and their positions, plus they briefly talked about Accepted Students Day. Next, the student directors talked about a museum with 309 participants that broke the Guiness World Record for the most worn bananas hats, that were inspired by the Savannah Bananas. The directors all explained what their own thoughts would be if they had to wear the banana hats right now. Next, the student directors talked about sports teams and leagues. First, Rachel covered the Boston Red Sox and their upcoming matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals for their second game in their first series. Next, Tyler covered the New England Patriots trading away QB Joe Milton and a seventh-round pick for a fifth-round pick. Then, David talked about the Boston Celtics breaking the record for the most three-point shots made in a season. Lastly, Nina covered the Dean Bulldogs Senior Day for both Men’s Lacrosse (vs. Rivier University) and Men’s Volleyball (Regis College).
For the fourth break, Jacob mentioned the weather for Saturday and Sunday. For the fifth break, Tyler mentioned a bracket where Nirvana and Metallica are the final two bands for the best Dad Rock band, and we were asked to debate who we thought was the best choice for the #1 spot and why. Nina and Jacob both voted for the Thrash/Heavy Metal legends, Metallica. Nate and Tyler voted for the legendary Grunge/Alternative Rock group, Nirvana. For the final break, the Remote Broadcast for Power 88.3 on Accepted Students Day, Nina, Tyler, and Nate reflected on their experience being a part of Power 88.3. To close the remote broadcast, Tyler thanked everyone for listening to the remote.
Nina, David, Tyler, Jacob, Nate, and Rachel did an outstanding job talking on the airwaves for Discover Dean Day. They all had very exciting and entertaining stories to bring to each break. Not only did the talk hosts shine on the airwaves, but both Nate and David also did an amazing job behind the scenes with operating the board and getting everybody ready to talk about their breaks!
