Senator J.D. Vance was announced as a vice-presidential pick for Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 election. J.D Vance was picked just days after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania by a lone shooter. Donald Trump survived the attack which has led to a bipartisan condemnation of political violence against political opponents.

J.D. Vance is a Senator from Ohio who was elected to the Senate in 2022 after seeking to fill the vacant seat of retired Republican Senator Rob Portman. He was born in 1984 in Middletown, Ohio. He joined the U.S. Marines from 2003 to 2007 in response to the War on Terror and deployed to Iraq in 2005. He attended Ohio State University and Yale Law from 2010 to 2013.

The reasoning for his vice-presidential pick is to secure the Rust Belt battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. However, some are concerned that J.D. Vance is inexperienced after only serving 2 years in the Senate. Originally, J.D. Vance was once a vocal critic of the current front-runner for the Republican Party, former president Donald Trump. He once called Trump an “American Hitler” and a “Total fraud” during the 2016 presidential election. Now J.D. Vance is a loyal ally for the former president and serves as his running mate.
