In game one of a doubleheader, Dean College lost to Johnson and Wales University 9-0. Dean struggled offensively and was only able to muster two hits, only getting one runner into scoring position the entire game. This was the first time all season that Dean had been shut out.
For the Wildcats, Miles Kelly and Riley Hasson each had two hits in the win. Kelly and Xavier Botelho both had three RBIs. The standout player in the game was Aidan Vining, as he threw a seven-inning complete game shutout. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight to earn his second victory of the season.
Brian Dovidio and Trent Bender had the lone hits for the Bulldogs, both singles. Kyle Simpson pitched well but didn’t receive much help from his defense. He threw 5.2 innings, allowing nine runs, just four earned, and struck out seven.
In game two, it was more of the same for the Bulldogs, falling 2-0 to the Wildcats again. However, in this game, Dean outhit JWU 5-3, but they couldn’t come up with a big hit with runners in scoring position.
AJ Braid, Trevor Juan, and Owen Davis had only three hits for the Wildcats. Kyle Cutler carried them to victory throwing nine shutout innings and striking out seven. This was his third win of the year.
For the Bulldogs, Brian Dovidio, Trent Bender, Nick Amendolara, Owen Liscio, and Teddy Benoit all had a hit in the game. Mason Neumann suffered a tough loss on the mound throwing five innings allowing just two hits, two runs, one earned, and striking out four. Jared Dussman also threw a scoreless three innings in relief.
Dean will now travel to St. Joseph’s College of Maine today for a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:30, as the Bulldogs are still looking for their first conference victory.
