Lasell Sweeps Double Header over Dean

FRANKLIN-- Lasell University defeated Dean College in both games of the doubleheader on a windy Sunday afternoon at Longley Athletic Complex. In game one, the Lasers won 12-2 thanks to a seven-run fourth inning. They had seventeen hits in just seven innings.

Bryan Baumann, Ross Audet, and Jared Whitby all had three hits for Lasell. One of Whitby’s three hits left the yard, it was a two-run home run in the second inning for the first runs of the game. Christopher Bulk also homered for the Lasers. Matthew Fletcher was the winning pitcher in the game, throwing six innings, giving up six hits, allowing two runs, and striking out seven.

For the Bulldogs, Brayden McLaughlin had a multi-hit game with two singles. Dean’s two runs were driven in by Trent Bender and Seth Cruz. Kyle Simson was charged with the loss pitching 3.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs, and striking out three.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Lasell again came away victorious with a final score of 10-5. The game was tied going into the seventh where Lasell scratched across a run, but then in the bottom half of the inning, Dean left the bases loaded, and then in the top half of the eighth, the Lasers pulled away by scoring three more runs.

Tim Callahan, Ross Audet, and Matthew Bischof all had two hits combining for six runs scored and five RBI’s as they were the catalysts offensively. Adam Marsh was the winning pitcher in a relief role. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowed two hits, one run, and struck out three. Then, former Bulldog Ethan Bernardo pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

For Dean, Tyler Giambra had a career-high three hits and two RBI. Jacob Paschetto and Brian Dovidio also had multi-hit efforts for the Bulldogs. Mason Neumann started and pitched well but didn’t factor into the decision. He went five innings, allowed five hits, five unearned runs, and struck out five. Jared Dussman was credited with the loss, throwing two innings in relief and allowing one run. Dean has a quick turnaround as they are back in action today at Trinity College at 4:00.
