The Dean College football team lost 31-27 to Maritime College on a rainy and windy Saturday afternoon at Dale Lippert Field.

The difficult conditions may have impacted Dean quarterback David Curry, as he finished the game 11-30 for 192 passing yards for two touchdowns and one interception. He also had 95 rushing yards and scored a touchdown of his own.

Junior Desmond Diaz had a game best 14 tackles and added a half- sack.

Maritime quarterback David Keogh finished with 18-37 for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Graduate student running back Christian Schiavone had a big game as he rushed 28 times for 138 yards and a touchdown. He also had four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Maritime got on the board first thanks to a receiving touchdown by Christian Schiavone only 2:40 into the game to make it 7-0.

However, Dean answered back less than four minutes later thanks to a 9-yard rushing touchdown by wide receiver Ki’sean Bullard to tie the game at seven with 8:54 left in the first quarter.

Maritime scored the only points in the second quarter with 1:55 left when Koegh found Pat Quinn on 3rd down and goal at the 24-yard line for a 24-yard touchdown due to a serious Bulldogs defense breakdown, which made it 14-7.

The Bulldogs forced a fumble on Maritime’s opening possession of the second half and turned it into a touchdown when Curry took it to the end zone himself to make it 14-14 with 13:51 left in the third quarter.

The team’s continued to swap scores as Maritime’s Schiavone scored a one-yard touchdown to give Maritime a 21-14 lead with 7:28 left in the third quarter.

However, shortly after, Curry found Quintis Reid for a 25-yard touchdown to tie it up at 21 with 5:16 left in the third quarter.

Joseph Gagliardi kicked a 25-yard field goal to give Maritime a 24-21 lead with 11:21 left in regulation. They added onto their lead when wide receiver Ian Derda got open for a 75-yard touchdown reception to make it 31-21 with 9:41 left in regulation.

Curry was able to find Reid again for a 7-yard touchdown to make it 31-27 with only 1:02 left in the game. However, it was too late as Maritime held on to win 31-27.

While the game stayed close until midway through the fourth quarter, the story of the day for Dean was the many missed opportunities they left on the field. Quarterback David Curry had a tough day with several passes overthrown to wide open receivers by the sideline. Dean also had some key pass drops both on offense and defense during the game.

The Bulldogs also misplayed a squib kickoff by Maritime, which hit the Dean player in the chest, causing him to muff the catch and led to Maritime recovering possession , which led to a score shortly after.

Dean falls to 2-7 and will finish their season on November 13th when they will host Alfred State College at 12pm. Maritime College improves to 2-5 and will host Keystone College next Saturday at 1pm.
